Seven Australians will tee it up at the U.S. Open this week hoping to become the third of our players to win the men’s championship. Here are their key facts and figures.
CAMERON SMITH
Age: 28
World ranking: 6
Best result in a major: 2nd (2020 Masters)
U.S. Opens played: Six (Four cuts made)
Best finish at a U.S. Open: YT4 (2015)
A two-time PGA Tour winner already this year following record-setting victories at Sentry Tournament of Champions and then The Players, the short-game specialist is fast becoming a perennial major threat but needs to find fairways with his sometimes wayward driver to contend at Brookline.
Odds: $21
ADAM SCOTT
Age: 41
World ranking: 43
Best result in a major: Winner (2013 Masters)
U.S. Opens played: 20 (12 cuts made)
Best finish at a U.S. Open: T4 (2015)
The U.S. Open is the least productive of the veteran former World No.1's major championships, with only three top-10s, but maybe being newly elevated to an AM in the Queen's Honours could prove a new driver. Game off the tee is the key to Scott’s success at the moment.
Odds: $81
LUCAS HERBERT
Age: 26
World ranking: 46
Best result in a major: T13 (2022 PGA)
U.S. Opens played: Two (One cut made)
Best finish at a U.S. Open: T31 (2020)
The PGA Tour winner is early in his career on the biggest circuit and is starting to find his mojo at the majors, claiming his first top-15 last month at Southern Hills and will enjoy the demanding layout of a U.S. Open. Plenty of creativity in his short game that should fit well here.
Odds: $151

MARC LEISHMAN
Age: 38
World ranking: 52
Best result in a major: T2 (2015 Open)
U.S. Opens played: 10 (Six cuts made)
Best finish at a U.S. Open: T18 (2016)
Will need to find something and fast having not posted a top-10 finish since his first event of the year in January. Also missed the cut in his last start at The Memorial. Like Smith and Scott, Leishman’s performance relies on the longest club in the bag, while the required precise ball striking suits. Not a traditional U.S. Open type player.
Odds: $126
MIN WOO LEE
Age: 23
World ranking: 64
Best result in a major: T14 (2022 Masters)
U.S. Opens played: Debut
The other half of world golf's most talented brother-sister act gets the chance to complete a unique family double by winning the U.S. Open two weeks after Minjee Lee won the U.S. Women's Open in record style. Shorter course than normal at a major could suit his power packed game, and clearly comfortable on the big stage as shown on Sunday at Augusta.
Odds: $251
JED MORGAN
Age: 22
World ranking: 247
Best result in a major: Debut
U.S. Opens played: Debut
The Queenslander is making his major championship debut courtesy of his PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit win, which he claimed largely by capturing this year's Australian PGA Championship. Terrific putter, and getting more comfortable on the bigger stages after a PGA Tour and LIV Golf start in the last fortnight.
Odds: $751
TODD SINNOTT
Age: 30
World ranking: 439
Best result in a major: Debut
U.S. Opens played: Debut
The Victorian has spent much of his career plying his trade in Asia and clinched a spot in his major championship debut through sectional qualifying in Japan. Won the TPS Victoria this year having missed plenty of golf with injury. Insanely talented player who hits the ball a mile, his impressive short game is often overlooked due to his power off the tee.
Odds: $751
