FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Getting my hands on the 2026 Chrome Tour lineup – Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X and Chrome Soft – the classic Callaway look certainly remains.

As always, the balls feel premium straight out of the box: smooth, solid and engineered for performance. The urethane covers are immaculate, and the famous Triple Track model is classy.

Before hitting the first shot, you can sense the subtle differences between the models.

This “tester” likes to juggle the balls with a lob wedge, just to get more of a feel for the firmness of each ball, before pitching a few, one after the other. The standard Chrome Tour sits in the middle – balanced, with a reassuringly firm, yet supple feel. The Tour X is slightly firmer and a touch more compact, giving that nippy, responsive sensation that better players tend to appreciate. Chrome Soft is softer, springs more off the face and promises that delicate, confident touch around the greens. From some light, feel-based testing, you can undoubtedly tell Callaway has fine-tuned these balls for different playing styles.

The key update for 2026 is the all-new Tour Fast Mantle, engineered to improve ball speed and consistency, while retaining its tour-quality feel. Paired with the Advanced Seamless Tour Aero design, the balls are built for stable, predictable flight from tee to green. The urethane covers remain a central feature, ensuring control around the greens and scoring shots, while each model is tailored to a specific performance profile.

HOW IT PERFORMED:

Chrome Tour

The standard Chrome Tour is a classic all-rounder, fit for all. Off the tee, it launches with a penetrating trajectory and carries exactly where you expect. Iron and wedge shots feel predictable, spin is consistent and around the greens, the feel is reliable without being grabby. This is a high-quality ball that performs across the bag, making it easy to trust in every situation. You can see precisely why it is the choice of so many of the best.

Chrome Tour X

The X is noticeably firmer. Off irons and wedges, there’s a crisp, responsive feel and around the greens, you can trust the spin with a decent strike, without overreacting. What stood out for me was playing it on a windy day; flighting the ball, holding lines and shaping shots (not this reviewer’s strong point) all felt more achievable and reliable than with many other similar models. The ball releases well and checks when you ask it to.

It has forgiving traits, too; some firmer ball models can just get lost in the breeze, or completely spin off-line with a mishit. There is a margin for error with the Chrome Tour X, which is exciting – as an average ball-striker, you can still have plenty of confidence putting the firmer ball in play. If you like a harder ball with a bit more workability, this one delivers. A definite favourite.

Chrome Soft

Chrome Soft tends to launch higher, but stays controlled. Drives don’t balloon, irons carry to the expected numbers, and you can be aggressive with wedge shots without fear of overspinning. Around the greens, it’s soft, forgiving and precise; you can really trust delicate chips and pitches. It offers a confidence-inspiring feel that makes holding the ball on the green straightforward, while still giving plenty of distance off the tee.

Across all three balls, the Triple Track alignment system is a genuine game-changer. Every putt feels more honest, highlighting how often you’ve misaligned shots in the past. Even if you prefer balls without lines, keeping one Triple Track ball in your bag for practice or pre-round warm-ups helps sharpen both your alignment and ball-striking awareness – a wicked training aid.

For players seeking an edge in performance, these balls offer clarity, consistency and confidence from tee to green. Callaway has once again raised the standard for tour-quality golf balls and this lineup makes it easy to match the right ball to your style of play.

CALLAWAY SAYS:

The new lineup features a revolutionary Tour Fast Mantle, with a 16 percent higher flex modulus, created to increase ball speed by acting like a stiffer spring at impact; it’s the first time this material has been used in a golf ball. This advanced core/layer system is faster than the materials previously used in Callaway designs.

This lineup also features Callaway’s Seamless Tour Aero with an Optimised Hybrid Aero Pattern that provides incredible distance and flight consistency. A high-performance Tour Urethane cover provides exceptional feel and greenside control. Plus, each golf ball is manufactured with Precision Technology, engineered to maximise performance throughout your game.

Chrome Tour is designed for the player looking for incredible speed and distance off the tee and a mid-spin profile for the best combination of distance, consistent flight and greenside control. Chrome Tour X is for the player looking for maximum speed off the tee and a mid-high spin profile through the bag for maximum workability. Chrome Soft is for the player looking for the benefits of a Tour ball with increased launch and a lower full-shot profile for longer distance, with incredible greenside control and a soft feel.

“The new Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X and Chrome Soft golf balls are all designed to provide a new level of ball speed,” says Eric Loper, Callaway Senior Director of Golf Ball Research and Development. “Our Tour Fast Mantle is a material that’s never been used before in a golf ball, and we’re confident that golfers will see why it can make such a big impact on their speed and distance. The consistency of this ball also truly stands out with our Seamless Tour Aero, and the control into the green is exceptional.”
