LPGA TOUR - CME GROUP TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

It would have been hard to imagine a Tour Championship without the World No.1 JIN YOUNG KO. But that seemed likely until last week’s US Open, where she finished tied second and finally qualified for a place in the field for the season-ending event.

Having chosen to stay home in Korea when the LPGA Tour restarted in July, Ko has played three tournaments since November 19 and her results have gradually gotten better with each start (T34, 5 and T2). She’s primed to round out 2020 with her only win of the year.

SO YEON RYU had a decent week last week at the US Open, finishing in a tie for 20th after four fairly consistent rounds, and I think she will improve on that this week.

Ryu has finished in the top-10 here four times in six starts, so clearly the venue is a good fit, and having only teed it up four times on the LPGA Tour all year, finishing with a win would be a nice way to finish 2020 and a kick start for a more active 2021 campaign.

I’m going to stick with INBEE PARK this week.

The South Korean has, once again, been mightily impressive this season, collecting eight top-10s and adding another victory to her tally. She’s also in great form – registering two runner-up finishes and a share of sixth from her three most recent starts – and has a great record here, despite limited appearances in recent years.

She hasn’t been at her best all season but she’s hardly been awful which is why BROOKE HENDERSON gets my vote at the season ender in Florida.

She has a decent record at Tiburon (including outright fifth last year) and, prior to a lacklustre week at the US Women's Open, was on a run of four straight top 10 results.

A win here would be a good way to wipe out memories of the close call at the ANA as well as maintain a streak of at least one win every year since 2015.
