The tournament is part of the Foundation’s mission to bring together different generations of Australia’s best golfers, encouraging older and more experienced players to pass on their knowledge to the stars of tomorrow.

This tradition of Australian golf harks back to the great Norman Von Nida mentoring a young Peter Thomson who, in turn, helped generations of neophyte Australian golfers.

The field will again be comprised of male and female professionals and amateurs. The tournament organisers are grateful to the quartet of Melbourne Sandbelt clubs who have agreed to host a tournament showcasing some of the best golf course architecture in the world, with special thanks to the generous Kingston Heath members who have, in the past few weeks, also hosted the Australian Open and The Port Phillip Amateur Championship.

“Getting the Sandbelt off the ground last year was an idea born of Covid and the subsequent lack of opportunity for so many players,” Geoff Ogilvy said. “This year will be another step on the way to making what we hope will become one of Australia’s most important tournaments.”

The field will include defending champion Brady Watt, PGA Tour winner Cameron Davis, Australian PGA champion Jed Morgan and LPGA Tour players Karis Davidson and Charlotte Thomas. Veterans Mat Goggin, Peter Fowler and Matt Griffin will be invaluable in passing on their experience to young talents like 15-year-old Amelia Harris and Jeneath Wong who both played some remarkable golf last year.

A new addition to this year’s tournament is a team component with eighteen teams of four playing for a single additional prize. The teams will be drawn a week before the opening round. Three scores from each team will be recorded over the first three rounds while on the final day at Peninsula Kingswood all four scores will count. On the individual leaderboard, the highest-finishing man and woman not already qualified will be exempt into both the TPS Rosebud and the Vic Open.

The Foundation will be assisted by the great Kathie Shearer as Press Officer, the indestructible Trevor Herden as rules official and Michelle Hui will oversee scoring and anything and everything else.
