Victorian Su Oh is just two shots off the pace after the first round of the LPGA Tour's LA Open.
Oh carded a five-under 66 at Wilshire Country Club to be in a five-way tie for fourth behind leader Jessica Korda.
Hannah Green is next best of the Australian contingent at three under while Sarah Kemp is a shot further back after a 69.
Defending champion Minjee Lee of Perth, who won in 2019 before last year's event was cancelled due to coronavirus, is at one under with Gabriela Ruffels, while Sarah Jane Smith is even par.
Korda closed with consecutive birdies in her round of 64 to hold a one-shot advantage over Hong Kong's Tiffany Chan and Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn.
Oh, who started on the back nine made four birdies between the 11th and 17th holes and two more coming home – her lone bogey was on the par-3 12th.
"This isn't an easy golf course at all. I was lucky to be able to position myself in the right spots off the tee and take advantage of the short putts that I did have for birdie." – Jessica Korda
Eight players, including South Korea's World No.3 Sei Young Kim, share 10th place at four under.
Korda birdied her first two holes, then added three consecutive birdies from No.8 to No.10.
After her lone bogey at No.12, she birdied three of the last four holes.
"This isn't an easy golf course at all," the six-time LPGA Tour title winner said.
"I was lucky to be able to position myself in the right spots off the tee and take advantage of the short putts that I did have for birdie."
Chan ran off a string of four consecutive birdies on the front nine, and had only one bogey.
Jutanugarn started and finished well, including four closing birdies, but had a huge wobble in the middle, with a double-bogey on No.11 and consecutive bogeys on the 13th and 14th holes.
"It's like kind of like ... a roller coaster," she said.
"It was pretty fun. You know, a lot of ... good things out there and ... it's pretty solid."
