There was not a single shot hit at Concord Golf Club on Saturday after the rain returned to Sydney on Saturday, the Golf Challenge NSW Open venue lashed with 80mm overnight.
Players and officials sat in readiness around the clubhouse and waited with some hope that play would get underway at some stage, a 9am (AEDT) deadline for a decision to be made.
As officials from Golf NSW, the PGA Tour of Australasia and Concord Superintendent Chris Howe discussed the plan, another steady downpour took hold.
Play officially abandoned for Saturday, with a Sunday mid-morning start expected off two tees and a 54-hole tournament confirmed by Golf NSW.
“Bunkers and greens are in great condition, but there is too much surface water to get out on course today,” Golf NSW Chief Operation Officer Graeme Phillipson said. “Even after a day of drying the green staff will need some time to get ready on Sunday morning. It will be two tee start on Sunday morning around 10am.”
