Previously known as the adidas Junior 6s and starting with a two-day event back in 2019, the concept has grown to a 20 World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event series across six countries, culminating with the World Final in November at former Australian Open host Commonwealth Golf Club.

Paying tribute to adidas for its long-standing support of his brainchild, Porter, a former Tour player turned golf commentator, spoke of his excitement during the launch of the schedule for 2024 that will see 14 events in Australia and New Zealand, while also visiting Singapore, Thailand, China and Indonesia.

“It gives me enormous pleasure to announce the inaugural season of the NextGen Amateur Tour. We have successfully grown the adidas Junior 6s from a two-day 36 hole event into a 20-event Asia-Pacific WAGR series in just five years,” Porter said.

“Now, our team is excited at the prospect of evolving our platform to enter new markets around the world and creating even greater opportunities and pathways for the next generation of talent.”

Founded for boys and girls aged between 13 and 25 with elite competition at the heart, the NextGen Amateur Tour is part of a greater mission born of Porter’s own experiences in junior and elite amateur golf that led to becoming a two-time Korn Ferry Tour winner.

"Our mission is to forge a dynamic and inclusive platform that not only showcases elite talent but also acts as a catalyst for personal and professional growth,” the Tour’s Mission Statement reads in part.

“Through a fusion of competition, mentorship, and community, NextGen Amateur Tour aims to cultivate the next generation of golfer, creating a legacy of excellence on and off the course."

Beyond the chance to sharpen their competitive skills in an encouraging environment that has proven popular with players, parents and coaches alike, the Tour has a history of providing players with a window into their future, and even advancement opportunities.

Handing out more than 40 Tour starts around the world (including 19 in 2023), numerous scholarships and overseas trips, the more than 500 past players from Porter’s brainchild circuit have gone to some incredible feats in just five short years.

"Our team is excited at the prospect of evolving our platform to enter new markets around the world and creating even greater opportunities and pathways for the next generation of talent.” – Ewan Porter.

Recording three major championship starts, two Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia wins among more than 10 top-5s, five Ladies European Tour top-10s and 14 WPGA Tour of Australasia top-10s, previous competitors have also recorded victories in the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship, Master of the Amateurs and Australian Junior Boys and Girls Championships.

Some of those players, as well as the next wave, will contest multiple day events around top-quality courses with separate boys and girls order of merits running in age categories of under-18 and 18-25 this year.
