Golf professionals might have been hard to find at a large number of golf clubs around Australia this week. And it wasn’t because of an industry holiday.
More than 200 PGA of Australia members attended the 2017 PGA Golf Expo on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast from September 12 to 14, building upon their already impressive knowledge of every aspect of the game.
Held at Novotel Twin Waters and nearby Twin Waters Golf Club the Expo offered Australian PGA members the chance to attend seminars run by industry leaders on business and coaching as well as the opportunity to lay eyes on the latest products from all the biggest names in golf equipment. With some companies even requiring signatures to ensure secrecy remains around upcoming releases.
Thanks in part to educational events like the Golf Expo, Australian PGA members are considered among the most knowledgeable and highly respected in the world, a point emphasised by renowned American golf instructor Michael Breed during one of his many presentations at the event.
Breed took part in the second ‘equipment’ day of the event assisting Titleist and FootJoy in launching their latest products and helping the professionals improve their fitting techniques.
While the host of The Golf Fix on the US Golf Channel and Director of Instruction at Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point also played a major role on day three of the Expo. Alongside Cameron McCormick, Australian coach to Jordan Spieth, and Richard Woodhouse, the 2016 PGA Teacher of the Year, Breed explained his teaching philosophies and techniques to an audience of inquisitive fellow golf professionals. All of whom have since made their way back to their posts across Australia to apply their improved knowledge to their everyday businesses and student’s lessons.
PGA Chief Executive Officer Gavin Kirkman and his team must be congratulated on a well organised event. As should the PGA members who took time away from their busy schedules and businesses to improve upon what they already offer and ensure that the exceptional reputation of Australian golf professionals continues on for many years to come.
Golf Australia was on site during the PGA Golf Expo keeping an eye on the raft of new equipment offerings from the exhibiting golf companies. All of which will feature in the coming months in the pages of Golf Australia magazine and Golf Australia Express.
