Lee is the only Aussie to ever win the U.S. Junior title, and is one of just three non-American winners in the event's history, but Guan appears determined to join the exclusive list if his match with Germany’s Tiger Christensen is anything to go by.

Guan, a member of The Australian Golf Club in Sydney and current leader on adidas Junior 6s Tour Boys points list, was never down in his match on Wednesday at Bandon Dunes after winning his first hole at the 3rd and never looking back in a 7&5 victory.

It was two birdies and three pars for Guan from the par-5 3rd that gave five straight holes to his credit before another birdie at the 576 yard par-5 9th gave him a 6-up lead after nine holes.

Christensen finally won his first hole at the 10th before the 18-year-old Guan won the 12th with a par three followed by another birdie at the par-5 13th to close out the match and earn some extra rest ahead of what could be a busy day on Thursday.

The Round of 32 is played in the morning, with the Round of 16 matches to be played in the afternoon. Guan squaring off with American Nicholas Gross at 8:12am local time.

Five-under through the 13 holes he played in his match with Christensen, Guan clearly enjoys the Bandon Dunes layout and his margin of victory in the Round of 64 was only bested by North Carolina’s Caleb Surrat who ended Mexico’s Ismael Encinas’ tournament in dramatic fashion 8&7.

The only other Aussie to advance to the match play, Harvey Young, won’t play any further part after a 3&2 loss to Mason Snyder.

Young was 1-down after one and despite his best efforts to stay in the contest with a putter that wasn’t working as efficiently as it did during the strokeplay eventually succumbed on the 16th hole.
