This year's Golf Challenge NSW Open played at the prestigious Concord Golf Club in March was an outstanding success highlighted by record attendances and strong interest in both broadcast and online coverage of the event.

Victoria's Bryden MacPherson proved a worthy winner at this year's Golf Challenge NSW Open, carding a four-round total of 18-under-par to win by three shots from rising star Elvis Smylie.

Graeme Phillipson, Chief Operating Officer of Golf NSW, was pleased to confirm Golf Challenge would retain naming rights for the 2022 and 2023 Championships.

"Retaining Golf Challenge as the naming rights partner of the NSW Open will continue to allow us to promote the pinnacle of our sport to a broader audience," Phillipson said.

"This partnership ensures the Championship will remain one of the most important fixtures on the Australian golf calendar."

Clive Mayhew, Chairman, Golf Challenge, said he was thrilled to continue connecting with golfers across the State through the Golf Challenge NSW Open.

"It was a real thrill to be a part of the Championship's return to Concord Golf Club this year and see the crowds turn up in record numbers," Mayhew said.

"This is such an iconic tournament; not only in NSW but across Australia and around the world; a great platform for the incredibly talented athletes we have in Australia to showcase their skills."

Planning is already underway for a series of Golf Challenge events for club golfers to participate in over the next nine months, culminating in a Challenge showdown on the Monday of Open week.

It's a concept which Mr Mayhew hoped would be a boon for the sport.

"Over the next several months, golfers in NSW will get a chance to play their way to Concord by taking part in a Golf Challenge tournament," Mayhew added.

"Our new strategic partnership with Golf NSW is designed to take the Golf Challenge format of playing the sport into clubs across NSW.

"It's exciting to see Golf NSW supporting the Golf Challenge as a new way to play golf."

INSPIRATION

Golf Challenge is a new way to play a round of golf. A series of golf-specific challenges, rather than the traditional 18 holes, Golf Challenge is ideal for enjoying a round of golf in less time.

Anyone can play a Golf Challenge. The goal of the game is to make the sport more accessible to a new generation of players.

The Golf Challenge concept is the brainchild of Sydney-based tech entrepreneur Clive Mayhew. It began in his backyard and evolved into a TV series to support young professional golfers during COVID.

The concept's success inspired Mayhew to produce an app and partnership with Golf NSW to promote the idea by becoming naming rights sponsor of the Golf Challenge NSW Open.

The Golf Challenge NSW Open will be played at the Concord Golf Club in March 2022.

Golfers can find Golf Challenge at Golf Challenge.app or download the Golf Challenge app at both Apple and Google app stores.
