Queensland’s Dougal Golden has claimed his first win on the adidas Junior 6s Tour on a day of low scoring at Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club.
Golden managed a round of four-under to qualify for the Super 6s match play portion from the boys side on the border of New South Wales and his home state of Queensland.
The Virginia Golf Club product’s strokeplay round was impressive, but it was bested by three shots on the girls side by Sarah Hammett.
Hammett, who finished in the top-10 at Women’s NSW Open at the same venue earlier this year on the River Course, shot a round of seven-under to earn her Super 6s knockout place. The 15-year-old Queenslander’s score six shots better than the next of the girls, Haruhi Nakatani.
Hammett couldn’t keep the same momentum going in the match play, with Golden emerging a victor by a margin of 3&2 to win the final event on the Ewan Porter founded circuit’s final event before the World Final at Kingston Heath next month offering World Amateur Golf Ranking points.
With his win, Golden moves to 15th on the Boys points race, where Jeffrey Guan remains the leader while Hammett moves to seventh behind leader Grace Lee.
