The two day event played over Monday and Tuesday saw Louis Dobbelaar take the lead into day two when the gates were opened to spectators but it was some of the veterans in the field who battled it out rather than the youngsters like Dobbelaar.

The Queenslander followed his 68 with a 75, while Nick Flanagan and Scott Arnold fired second straight rounds of three-under 69 to sit tied atop of the leaderboard and set for sudden death.

That result itself looked unlikely when seven-time major winner Karrie Webb was the leader by two with two holes to play before a double bogey-bogey finish saw the former World No.1 limp into the clubhouse at five-under alongside Grace Kim and one shot out of the play-off.

Par was enough on the first hole of the play-off for Flanagan to triumph and take home the trophy and $100,000 winners cheque back to America where he makes his home.

“With two kids now every cent counts. For me to keep chasing these tournaments and spending the money to come over, if you don’t perform it goes really quick and your priorities change,” Flanagan told the PGA of Australia website.

“This will definitely give me a little bit of breathing room to be able to come back and play a little bit next year, the events at the beginning of the year, and hopefully bring the family with me which we haven’t been able to do with how expensive it can be.”

Behind Kim and Webb was Marc Leishman on four-under, while Adam Scott was in a share of 11th with Dobbelaar, Michael Sim and Kiwi Denzel Ieremia.
