Having finished runner-up twice at the venue, the World No.1 finally hoisted the trophy courtesy of a six-under-par 66.

The big-hitting American's 23-under total gave him a three-shot win from playing partner Byeong Hun An (69) and Whee Kim (69).

Johnson's 19th career PGA Tour title makes him the first golfer since Tiger Woods (2009) to win three or more times in three consecutive seasons on golf's richest circuit.

The 34-year-old also surpassed Woods (18) for the most victories on the Tour since 2008 and has won 10 of his last 43 starts.

Johnson said his victory was particularly special given his fiancée Paulina is the daughter of Canadian ice hockey great Wayne Gretzky.

"It definitely means a lot; I have a lot of ties to Canada with Paulina and her dad and thanks to Wayne I get a lot of fans out here," he said.

Starting the final day in a four-way tie for the lead, Johnson laid down the marker with three front-nine birdies.

The typically unflappable Johnson had no issues with a near two-hour weather delay which halted play just after he had belted his tee shot down the par-4 9th.

He birdied the 11th before his only bogey of the day came at the difficult par-3 12th.

However, the tall, athletic Johnson bounced back with birdie on the next hole before another at the 16th gave him a three-shot lead standing on the 18th tee.

He signed off with a 370-yard drive down the middle at the last, before a pitching wedge from 147 yards allowed an easy two-putt birdie.

Aaron Baddeley closed with a 73 to finish at six under and 17 shots back of Johnson.

One shot back of Baddeley was his countryman Cameron Percy, who closed with a solid 70 to finish at five under.

Queenslander Rod Pampling carded a 74 to earn a two-under total.
