Round One of the Australian Women's Classic -Bonville Presented by Pacific Bay Resort Studios has been abandoned with just 12 groups able to begin their round.
The Green Staff at Bonville worked tirelessly to make the course playable after over 40 millimetres fell overnight. However, their efforts were in vain as officials were compelled to call all players from the course at 8.20 am due to the increasing rain from an intense low trough.
Despite the hope for a resumption of play, officials extended the deadline twice and explored all possible options to get competitors back on course. It was only after careful consideration that Golf NSW, LET and WPGA Tour officials decided to call play for the day over at 2.00 pm.
Of those who did get their round underway, Denmark's Nicole Broch Estrup holds the early lead at two under par after three holes. Last week's Women's NSW Open Golf Champion Maria Jose Uribe Duran of Colombia is one of four players at minus one, including Ann Van Dam (Netherlands), Linnea Johnson (Sweden), and West Australian Kirsten Rudgeley.
The competition will resume in round one tomorrow at 7.30 am.
