The Longest Day will officially take place on Monday December 11 this year, but participants can take on the challenge at their local golf club anytime during December and January. Participants are challenged to play four rounds of golf (72 holes) in a single day at their own club with their friends and fellow members.

Naomi Watson, Director of Marketing & Fundraising said The Longest Day is an ultimate golf marathon that tests skill, strength and stamina, and it’s easy to get involved.

“The Longest Day challenges participants to successfully complete 72 holes of golf during daylight hours – an ultimate golf challenge that many keen golfers are eager to conquer!" Ms Watson said.

“Participants will be helping the almost 1 in 2 Australians who will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85 by raising funds for Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer research, prevention, information and support programs that help the thousands of families affected by cancer each year in Australia.

“It’s estimated that there are currently more than one million Australians living with and beyond cancer, so funding for the next cancer research breakthrough takes all of us."

Ms Watson says tackling cancer takes all of us, and it is only thanks to the generosity of supporters like those participating in The Longest Day, that Cancer Council is able to continue the work that they do.

“Of course, we also want to remind participants to be safe on the course this summer, so we encourage golfers to keep sun safe by slipping on sun protective clothing, slopping on SPF30 on higher sunscreen, slapping on a broad-brimmed hat, seeking shade and sliding on some wraparound sunglasses on the course, not only on The Longest Day, but each and every day,” she concluded.
