Aussie Justice Bosio advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Girls Junior in a share of sixth then put on the most dominant display in the opening match play amongst the 64 qualifiers.
In sweltering conditions at The Club at Olde Stone in Kentucky, the Queenslander saved herself excess time in the energy sapping sun by accounting for American Kristina Xu 6&5 to move into the round of 32.
“It was pretty hot, and I haven't played in this hot of conditions, but I have been here since June, so I think my body is getting a little bit more used to it, if that can happen,” Bosio said. “But yeah, definitely getting off the golf course a bit quicker today was a bit of an advantage coming into tomorrow, getting a little bit more rest.”
Bosio won the first two holes with pars and never looked back, making the turn 4-up despite just one birdie on her card and two bogeys.
Two more hole wins came at the 11th with a par five and 12th with a birdie on the 381 yard par-4 before a par at the one shotter next was enough to end the match.
“I didn't make too many birdies, but I played steady. I had a couple of bogeys but also had a couple of birdies. Yeah, pretty steady golf,” she said.
Bosio, ranked 96th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking, will now face another American in Mackenzie Lee, who had a strong win of her own in the round of 64, defeating Canada’s Michelle Liu 4&3.
The honour roll of the event includes names like Rose Zhang, Yealimi Noh, Ariya Jutanugarn, Lexi Thompson and Inbee Park, while Minjee Lee is the lone Aussie to win the U.S. Girls Junior. Something Bosio, who has Aussie Tour pro Steph Na on the bag this week, could change if her form continues.
