Australian Ella Scaysbrook has reached the final four of the prestigious U.S Women’s Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon.
The 19-year-old, making her debut in the premier amateur event, produced another commanding performance to defeat Canada’s Taylor Kehoe 5 and 4 in Friday’s quarter-final (U.S time).
The match’s standout moment came at the par-5 9th hole, where Scaysbrook holed a remarkable 50-foot putt which broke two feet before dropping into the centre of the cup.
Scaysbrook, the No. 63 seed in the 156-player field, has been in irresistible form all week. She opened with rounds of 74-71 in stroke play to secure her spot in match play, then swept aside her early opponents - American Asterisk Talley 6 and 4 in the round of 64, Avery Weed 4 and 3 in the round of 32, and Jasmine Koo 4 and 3 in the round of 16 - before dismantling Kehoe, the 23rd seed.
“This is my first U.S Women’s Amateur, so I’m just proud I’ve made it this far,” Scaysbrook said.
“I try to stay in the present. Just go out tomorrow and see what happens.”
The Golf NSW state team member and Golf Australia High Performance squad representative has already enjoyed a strong season, winning the 2025 Avondale Bowl and finishing runner-up at the Australian Master of the Amateurs.
Scaysbrook’s next challenge comes in Saturday’s semi-final (U.S time) against 11th seed Megha Ganne, who beat Eila Galitsky 2 and 1 in their quarter-final. The two winners will advance to Sunday’s championship match, potentially capping a week in which the finalists will have played upwards of 150 competitive holes.
Having cut her teeth on Australia’s famed Sandbelt courses, Scaysbrook said she has felt right at home on the links-style Bandon Dunes layout.
“They’re very similar golf courses to Melbourne and even South Australia,” she said.
