After 36-holes of strokeplay, all five Australians teeing it up in The Women’s Amateur Championship at Prince’s in England have advanced to the match play portion of the storied event.
Ireland’s Beth Coulter led the strokeplay with a two round total of five-under-par to take the top seed ahead of four players at two-under, including WAGR World No.1 Ingrid Lindblad, America’s Latanna Stone, Japan’s Sera Hasegawa and Scottish player Hannah Darling.
Signing for a second round 72, Queensland’s Justice Bosio led the Aussie charge in a share of 17th that sees her automatically through to the second round of match play and a showdown with wile Ffion Tynan of Wales.
Also through to the second round were Lion Higo who will take on Lithuania’s Gilė Bitė Starkutė, Abbie Teasdale set for a head-to-head match with Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio of Spain and South Australian Caitlin Peirce who plays Irish golfer Aine Donegan.
Rounding out the Aussie contingent, Amelia Whinney will hope to join her compatriots in the second round, but first must take on Julia Gregg of America in the first round of match play after scraping through the strokeplay section by a solitary stroke.
Although playing under the Malaysian flag, Melbourne resident and now Pepperdine University player Jeneath Wong will also feature in the match play after she bounced back from an opening round of 79 with a one-under 71 to set up a round two match with Silje Torvund Ohma of Norway.
