Adam Scott has vowed to make the most of a late reprieve after keeping his super major championship streak alive by earning a US Open berth at a qualifying event.
Former World No.1 Scott has not missed a major appearance in almost 17 years, with his 67 straight appearances since the 2001 Open Championship second only to Sergio Garcia's sequence of 75.
After battling for weeks to get in via the rankings, World No.64 Scott finally secured a berth at next week's US Open at Shinnecock Hills via the gruelling, 36-hole qualifying event in Columbus, Ohio on Monday.
He gave himself a red-hot chance with a six-under-par 66 in the first 18 holes at Brookside Country Club before an ever-par 72 at The Lakes course left him sharing 10th place at six under.
Scott and Aaron Baddeley (also tied 10th) were the only Australians to progress from the elite sectional field of 120 golfers in Columbus, where 14 Open spots were on offer.
With qualifying continuing at various other sites around the US on Monday, Victorian youngster Lucas Herbert is in good position in outright third at five under at Portland, Oregon where four Open places are up for grabs.

Scott was relieved to qualify, but it's the US Open title that matters much more to him than his unbroken majors streak.
"It is a nice streak to keep going; it'd be better if I win the US Open," Scott said.
“I'm playing all these majors to try and win them, not just to show up.
"I'd like to make the most of this opportunity.
"(Qualifying) was a bit of a grind but somehow I snuck through.
"I'm really looking forward to Shinnecock Hills; it's one of my favourite courses so I'm really happy to get there."
With Jason Day, Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith already exempt for Shinnecock, Jason Scrivener qualified in England while Sydney native Matt Jones braved a playoff to snare one of 11 spots on offer in Memphis.
South Australia's David Lutterus was in pole position at the Springfield, Ohio sectional but stumbled late and settled for second alternate.
