Jeff Winther overcame being locked in a bathroom on Sunday morning and two local Spanish hopes to claim the Mallorca Golf Open. Here is what the first-time European Tour had in the bag.
WINNING SCORE: 15-under-par, 265.
EQUIPMENT CHOICE:
DRIVER: Callaway Mavrik Max with 10.5° loft, fitted with Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black 60 6.0 shaft.
3-WOOD: Callaway Mavrik Max with 15° loft, with Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei Blue 75 TX shaft.
HYBRID: Titleist TS2, with Graphite Design Tour AD IZ shaft.
IRONS: Callaway Apex Pro 2019 (4-iron) and Callaway Apex MB 2018 (5-iron to pitching wedge), with True Temper Project X shafts.
WEDGES: Titleist Vokey Design SM8 (50°-08° F Grind & 54°-10° S Grind) and Titleist Vokey Design WedgeWorks (58° L Grind), with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shafts.
PUTTER: Odyssey Exo 2-Ball.
BALL: Titleist Pro V1x.
EQUIPMENT NOTES:
Winther carries a mix of more forgiving and better player models in his bag setup, with his driver and 3-wood both models built for increased moment of inertia (MOI), while his irons are a traditional set of forged muscle back blades. It was the Dane’s ball striking and putting that powered his performance to claim a maiden title in Europe, gaining more than three shots on the field with his approach play and leading the putting statistics for the week in Spain.

The 33-year-old’s putter is an extremely custom piece of equipment and something of a rare model on Tour. A limited edition model also used by major winner Shane Lowry, Winther’s EXO 2-Ball putter features a plumber’s neck to offer a different look and more toe hang, while the flatstick is also fitted with Odyssey’s famed White Hot insert.
-
Winther’s victory gives the Titleist range of Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls a clean sweep of the European Tour’s three week Spanish Swing alongside Matthew Fitzpatrick and Rafa Cabrera Bello.
