EQUIPMENT NOTES:
Morikawa, like World No.1 Dustin Johnson, continues to stick with the original SIM driver from TaylorMade that delivered him major championship success in 2020. It is easy to see why, too. The 24-year-old missed just one fairway on Sunday and averaged almost 84 percent of fairways across the week to rank T5 for the week.

As always, Morikawa’s iron play was on song this week, ranking second in GIR with his combination set of muscle back blade short irons and cavity back irons, while his switch to new putter and grip has made a significant difference. Having mostly used a blade style so far in his burgeoning career, Morikawa is now using a mallet Spider FCG with a plumber’s neck and employing a saw style grip that he spoke about with major winner Mark O’Meara. The reigning US PGA champion ranking inside the top-10 for both Strokes Gained: Putting and Putts per GIR.

Morikawa put TaylorMade’s latest TP5 golf in play recently and his first victory in 2021 is also the first for TaylorMade golf balls on the PGA Tour so far this year.
QUOTE: “I'm always concerned about my putting, I'll be honest. I think I always have. But that's because I've never felt comfortable.” – Collin Morikawa.
