EQUIPMENT NOTES:
The 26-year-old carries a fairly standard setup for a male touring professional, with well-spaced gapping throughout his set and a full bag of PING clubs complemented by a Titleist golf ball. PING drivers have been extremely popular with the world’s best players in recent years, the latest G425 range collecting a number of victories on the European Tour of late, with Hill following the trend on Tour to opt for lighter shafts in his driver. A long and accurate player from the tee, Hill like many others uses a shaft in the 60 gram range for his driver and 70 gram shafts in his fairway woods. Shaft weights fluctuate across players, however, in years gone by many opted for 70 grams plus in the driver before longer more stable graphite shafts and the advent of drivers measuring over 45 inches saw a shift.
- A forgiving player’s cavity back model, the i210 irons in Hill’s bag remain extremely popular with Tour players. Viktor Hovland is another PING staff player to win recently with the model in the bag, while Hill, like Hovland, opts for prototype PLD putter from PING. Hill’s flatstick has a heavy milling pattern on the face and incorporates the winged mallet shape of the company’s retail Tyne models.
A three-time winner on the secondary Challenge Tour, Hill, who hails from Kirkcaldy, gives Titleist golf balls a hat-trick of wins on the European Tour.
QUOTE: "I managed to manage my emotions pretty well and stay in each shot and not get ahead of myself. I definitely felt the pressure but managed to keep control of it.” – Calum Hill.
