Fresh off a winning season on the PGA TOUR in the United States, rising Australian golfer Karl Vilips will compete in this year’s men’s Australian Open at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in December.
One of Australia’s most promising young talents on the global golf stage, Vilips will join an elite field headed by Masters champion and Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy and Australia’s best including Adam Scott, Cam Smith, Min Woo Lee, Cam Davis and Lucas Herbert.
A member of Golf Australia’s Rookie Squad, Vilips made an almost impact on the PGA TOUR in his rookie season, winning the Puerto Rico Open with a tournament record 26-under-par total in just his third start on the world’s toughest tour.
He picked up another three top-20 finishes during 2025 to finish the Fedex Cup in 83rd position.
In the past 12 months, the 24-year-old’s Official World Golf Ranking has risen from No. 245 to just outside the top 100.
“Playing in the Australian Open at Royal Melbourne is a real bucket list item for an Australian golfer,” Vilips said.
“Being back at home, with an awesome field, on one of the best golf courses in the world, and big crowds is going to be awesome.
“I loved last years’ experience at Kingston Heath and Victoria and I imagine this year’s Open is going to take it up a couple of levels.”
CEO of Golf Australia James Sutherland welcomed Vilips’ inclusion in the 2025 Open field.
“Karl is one of the young stars of world golf, with a bright future ahead of him. We’re excited to watch him showcase his talents on home soil in front of huge crowds at Royal Melbourne,” Sutherland said.
