Two of Sydney's finest to stage 2027 NSW Amateur showdown

Held from Monday 25 to Friday 29 January, the Championship will bring a 264-strong field of leading amateur golfers to two of Sydney’s most renowned courses.

Players will contest the NSW Medal and Women’s Stroke Play across both courses before the field is reduced for the match play stages at New South Wales Golf Club, where the 2027 NSW Amateur Champions will ultimately be decided.

First played in 1898 for Men and 1903 for Women, the NSW Amateur is one of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious tournaments and holds status as both a National and World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event.

The Men’s Championship honour roll features some of the most recognised names in Australian and international golf, including major champions Eric Apperly, Jim Ferrier and New Zealander Michael Campbell, as well as recent winners Harrison Crowe and back-to-back champion Declan O’Donovan.

The Women’s Championship has an equally distinguished history, with Karrie Webb, Nikki Campbell, Rachael Heatherington and Grace Kim among its notable past champions.

Adding further significance to the 2027 Championship, both NSW Amateur champions will earn a coveted place in their respective 2027 NSW Opens.

Golf NSW General Manager – Golf, Olivia Wilson, said the Championship’s history and pathway into professional golf made it a standout event on the calendar.

“The NSW Amateur is one of the true jewels of Australian golf, and the 2027 Championship promises to be a fantastic week across two outstanding Sydney courses,” Wilson said.

“New South Wales Golf Club will provide a spectacular stage for the match play and Championship finals, while together with St. Michael’s Golf Club, players will face a tremendous test across the opening stroke play rounds.

“When you look at an honour roll featuring names such as Karrie Webb, Michael Campbell and Grace Kim, you understand the significance of this Championship and the role it has played in the development of some of our finest players.

“With a direct pathway into their respective NSW Opens on offer, we know this field is going to be stacked with players desperate to make their mark. There will be plenty on the line, and we can’t wait to see it unfold.”

New South Wales Golf Club President Chris Coudounaris said the Club was proud to continue its longstanding support of amateur golf.

“New South Wales Golf Club has a proud and longstanding history of supporting amateur golf, and the development of the amateur game remains an important value of the Club. We are delighted to continue that tradition as host of the 2027 NSW Amateur Championship.

St. Michael’s Golf Club General Manager Jeff Wagner said the Club was proud to play a central role in staging the Championship.

“It almost feels like the stars have aligned for St. Michael’s and New South Wales Golf Club to be able to host the Championship together. The demand for golf in this part of Sydney is significant, so for both Clubs to have the opportunity to make their courses available for an event of this stature is something quite special.”

Entries for the 2027 NSW Amateur Championship will open on Wednesday 14 October 2026.
