The first time he played golf he shot “about 140.” Last year at the Vic Open, James Nitties became a co-world record holder when he reeled off nine birdies in a row.
In between, the Novocastrian has been on quite the golfing journey.
In Episode 29 of The Thing About Golf, Nitties reflects on his teenage years when he suffered juvenile arthritis, restricting his flexibility. It didn't keep him away from the golf course though, as he moved from successful amateur career into the pro ranks in 2004.
Nitties ultimately made it onto the PGA Tour – via the gruelling Q-School and, after a seven episode appearance on the Golf Channel's, Big Break – in 2009.
And today, he's a world record holder with a wonderful story to tell.
