AMERICAN Jim Furyk has grabbed a big slice of golfing history by becoming the first player to ever shoot 58 in a PGA Tour event.
The 46-year-old began the final round of the Travelers Championship 16 shots behind the leader and was just hoping to improve on his third round 72. A birdie-eagle-birdie run starting at the 2nd hole and he was on his way.
Furyk turned in 27 (eight under) and added three more birdies to open the back nine to reach 11 under through 12 holes. The Tour veteran grabbed one more birdie, at the par-3 16th, to finish at 12 under and with a magical 58 next to his name. He hit all 18 greens in regulation and made 10 birdies and an eagle to surpass the previous record of 59 … a record which he also had a share of.

Furyk became the sixth player to shoot 59 in PGA Tour history back at the 2013 BMW Championship. Interestingly he used the same set of Callaway RAZR X Forged irons to set the new record of 58 as he did three years ago at Conway Farms GC.
