The Castle Hill Golf Club member will play his second PGA Tour event this week at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota, having recorded a phenomenal round of 60 at the Monday qualifier, where Gale produced fireworks on the back nine.

Making four straight birdies from the 10th hole, Gale made a rare par at the par-4 14th before another two consecutive birdies followed by a par at the penultimate hole.

That birdie blitz was already likely going to be enough for the Sydneysider to secure a place in the 3M Open field, but he was not done yet.

Sitting 117 metres from the hole of the par-4 last, Gale struck a perfect Gap wedge that rattled the flagstick and found its way to the bottom of the cup. A fact that wasn’t confirmed until Gale, adorned in his usual yellow bucket hat, arrived on the putting surface to find his Titleist nestled in the hole.

“Well, I had a good number, obviously,” Gale told the PGA Tour after the round. “You obviously want to finish out your round strong and I had 117 metres, so 128 yards, and wind sort of was a bit down, so it was just a smooth gappy and slam dunk.

“I’ve made a bunch of friends here since last year, so I might have to buy a house here.

“I can’t wait to get out there. I am ready to make a statement.”

That eagle two meant Gale took just 28 shots on the back nine to close out his course record 60 that was five shots better than the next best score in the qualifier, surely a good sign as the World No.762 attempts to improve on last year’s missed cut.

A result that will perhaps force the OWGR to update its image of Gale on its website, that at the time of writing featured a left handed English club pro rather than the right hander, who is collectively 19-under-par at 3M Open qualifiers according to the authority on Mondays, the Monday Q Info Twitter account (@acaseofthegolf1).

Gale joins fellow Aussies Aaron Baddeley, Cam Davis, Harrison Endycott and Cam Percy in the field in Minnesota.
