Seventeen players who have joined the Saudi-backed breakaway are in the field for the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, where Pelley addressed a players' meeting on Tuesday evening.

Pelley urged the likes of Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia not to show disrespect to the DP World Tour by "parroting LIV's talking points".

He also dismissed Garcia's claim the circuit is a feeder Tour set to become the fifth best in the world.

"Please stop this nonsense," Pelley said in a lengthy press conference on Wednesday.

"Is this week a tournament that would be on a feeder Tour? We are unquestionably number two in the world by a country mile."

Pelley’s stern words follow defending champion Billy Horschel and former World No.1 Jon Rahm taking aim at LIV players in the field at Wentworth the day prior.

"I honestly don't think that the American guys who haven't supported the Tour should be here," Horschel said. "Abraham Ancer, Talor Gooch ... you've never played this tournament, you've never supported the DP World Tour. Why are you here?

"You are here for one reason only and that's to try to get world ranking points because you don't have it (on LIV Golf).”

Like Horschel, Rahm did not take issue with the like of Poulter, Westwood and Garcia teeing it up at the DP World Tour’s marquee event, but did address other players arriving on the European Tour in search of ranking points at the expense of Tour members.

"What I don't understand is some players that have never shown any interest in the European Tour, have never shown any interest in playing this event, being given an opportunity just because they can get world ranking points and hopefully make majors next year,” Rahm said.

"It does bug me that somebody who has played over 20 DP World events this year cannot be given the opportunity to play a flagship event because [of them]. They don't know. They don't care. They don't know the history of this event."
