Some of the biggest names in Australian golf over the past three decades will converge on the Murray River region from October 30 to November 1, 2026, when the NSW Senior Open makes its landmark eighth appearance at Thurgoona Golf and Country Club Resort.
The $150,000, 54-hole tournament is a cornerstone of the Australian PGA Legends Tour and will once again bring elite senior professional golf to Albury, continuing a partnership between Golf NSW, the Thurgoona Country Club Resort and the PGA Legends Tour which now stretches back eight years.
The eighth edition of the tournament at Thurgoona is a milestone which reflects how well the event has taken root in the region.
Golf NSW Chief Operating Officer Graeme Phillipson said the event had become one of the most anticipated tournaments on the senior calendar.
“The Albury-Wodonga community and the Liverpool Catholic Club have supported this event from day one, and that loyalty means everything to us. Thurgoona has been the home of the NSW Senior Open since the beginning, and with good reason. The players love it, the crowds keep coming back, and the whole region gets behind it.”
Mr Phillipson also noted the broader significance of the event for the sport.
“Golf is the number-one pastime Australia-wide for those over 50, and events like the NSW Senior Open play a vital role in promoting the game as the ideal recreational activity for people of all ages.”
Defending champion Mat Goggin, who claimed the 2025 title in impressive fashion, is expected to return to Thurgoona to defend his crown. Goggin will face a formidable field featuring many of the most decorated names in Australasian golf history, including:
• Peter Lonard – nine-time winner on the PGA Tour of Australasia and a US PGA Tour winner
• Andre Stolz – multiple PGA Legends Tour Order of Merit winner
• Scott Barr – Asian Tour winner and PGA Legends Tour regular
• Terry Price – European Senior Tour winner
• Steven Conran – Japan Tour winner
• Peter O'Malley, Michael Harwood, Grant Kenny and 2019 champion Brad Burns.
Nick Dastey, General Manager of Tournaments and Global Tour Relationships, said players genuinely looked forward to the NSW Senior Open as one of the standout events on the tour.
“The community support that the NSW Senior Open receives from the people of Albury and Thurgoona is a big reason the tournament has been such a success,” said Dastey.
“That support creates a wonderful environment for our players and has helped it to become one of the major events on the PGA Legends Tour calendar.
“Golf fans love the opportunity to watch some of our most famous names tee it up in tournament play and I’d expect to see another exceptional field at Thurgoona later this year.”
The fan experience at this year’s tournament will again offer unparalleled access, with spectators able to walk the fairways alongside their favourite players and witness championship golf at its finest.
Thurgoona Country Club Resort General Manager Adam Fitzgerald said the club and its staff were as excited as ever to be welcoming the best senior players in the country.
“We have watched this event grow year on year, and the connection between our club, our staff and the players is something genuinely special. For golf fans in the region, there is simply no better way to spend a day than walking the fairways alongside these legends of the game and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back in October.”
