Keys To Pure Ball-striking
Glen Pollard, Head professional, Fox Hills GC, Sydney

Australian PGA pros show you how to become a pure ball-striker by adopting simple techniques and using easy-to-follow exercises.

The noticeable aspect of a good golfer's swing is that they seem to hit the ball with very little effort. There is no hint of them hitting hard at the ball with their hands and arms.

That's the key. When you want to increase your clubhead speed, use your bigger muscles by the shift and rotation of your body.

To do this, try this drill. Once you have established your set-up position, put a shaft into the ground a few centimetres outside your left foot (for right-handers). Swing the club back, making sure the majority of your weight is on the inside of your right foot at the top of your backswing.

Now start your downswing into impact by shifting your weight to your left side as your knees move laterally and your hips rotate. Through impact, your aim should be to rotate your left hip inside the shaft. If you hit the shaft, your hips have slid towards the target - not rotated.
