cure your slice forever
Exclusive by Sean Somers, Golf Australia Teaching Editor

THE slice … it is the average golfer’s worst nightmare. Not only does a slice hurt you on the scorecard but it can be costly when it comes to replenishing your supply of balls.

Short-term fixes for getting rid of a slice are available but these are just band-aid solutions for swing problems that should be addressed with a view to finding a long-term solution. In short, with better technique and a greater grasp of the correct concepts of the golf swing, you can actually cure your slice forever and play better golf than you ever have before.

All sliced shots are created by swings that can also hit a pulled hook or a snap hook. The symptoms may be different but the swing remains the same. This can lead to tension and anxiety over the ball because you simply don’t know where the shot is going to go.

There are basically two types of slices. There is the push or block slice where the ball starts right (for right-handers) of the target at impact and flies well right and then there is the pull slice where the ball starts left of the target and bends back to the right of the target. These slice shots are created by two
different swings and knowing which slice you hit will go a long way to solving your slice problem.

Over the following pages you will be able to identify what kind of slicer you are, discover how you hit that slice and then work through the process of fixing your swing with precise tips and drills.

Starting now, you can adopt sound fundamentals and a routine that will train new visual and musclen memories that will overcome your slice and see you hitting the ball straighter and much longer.
