ping rapture v2 driver
PLAYER: Scott Lendon
HANDICAP: 16
MODEL AND SHAFT PLAYED:
Ping Rapture
V2 driver with 10.5º loft and regular
TFC939D graphite shaft.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
The size of the PING
head is perfect, not overly bulky or offputting.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the ribbed
rubber grip, but that was the only aspect I
didn’t like.
VERDICT:
As a fairly erratic ball-striker, I was
impressed at the end of the round to find
that most of my strikes were coming off the
centre of the clubface – and the results
reflected that. Whether I was just having a
good day, or the club helped to iron out
my swing kinks I’m not sure, but I hit the
centre of a lot of fairways and my playing
partners started heckling me towards the
end of the round (as mates do) because I
was hitting the ball so well.
The balance of the Rapture was a
noticeable feature. The weight of the driver
in the hands and throughout the swing
was very good, which allowed me to simply
put an easy swing on the ball and not
have to worry too much what the club
was doing.
All in all, the Ping Rapture V2 is a
confidence-inspiring, easy-to-hit club that
delivers a long and high ball flight – just
what you need out of a driver.

PING SAYS: “The mass properties of
tungsten and titanium are optimised in
the Rapture V2 Driver to create a highlaunching,
lower-spinning driver that
delivers the performance expected from
a multi-metal design. “The visible, dense tungsten weight
pads in the back of the lightweight
titanium head expand the perimeter
weighting and position the centre-ofgravity
low and away from the face.
“The 460cc head is slightly elongated
by extending the face height and
aggressively sloping the crown. The thin
face is precisely machined and plasmawelded
to deliver higher ball speeds for
greater distance.”
