MIZUNO SAYS: “The MX-560 driver
achieves two major design goals:
extreme distance and extreme
forgiveness. In creating a unique High
Energy Mass Impact (HEMI) geometric
head shape, Mizuno engineers
increased the heel-toe and up-down
moment of inertia of the driver for
massive forgiveness, while maintaining a low spin rate and high launch angle for massive distance.
“Furthermore, the HEMI geometric
shape provides the perfect balance of
a low-deep centre of gravity that’s the
proper distance from the shaft axis.
This also aids greatly in bombing long
and straight drives.
“In addition, the CNC-milled, plasmawelded
Cortech face insert delivers the maximum allowable ball speed
across the entire area of the face for explosive distance.”

MODEL AND SHAFT PLAYED: Mizuno MX-560 10.5º with regular flex Exsar graphite shaft.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: My current driver has a 350cc head, so I was immediately struck by the size of the MX-560. The head was
nicely shaped, with good clean lines – Mizuno is well-known for the styling of its irons, and that’s been transferred to this driver.
VERDICT: I quickly became comfortable with the 460cc head, because the Mizuno driver was so easy to swing. The clubhead gave me greater confidence standing on the tee, knowing that even offcentre shots would fly well.
The venue for the road test had many tight, tree-lined holes, and the windy conditions made driving the ball even more of a challenge. The shaft combination produced a medium-to-high trajectory that really held in the breeze, even though my usual fade wasn’t working on the day.
The driver was consistently 10 to 20 metres longer than my usual
distance off the tee, even on the errant shots that I didn’t hit dead centre. The clubhead also produced a solid sound, and the club felt good in the hands.
As the test progressed, I grew more confident and was able to swing faster. I was even comfortable enough to use the club
for approach shots off the deck on long par-5s, which is certainly not how I would normally play. I liked the Mizuno driver so much I unsuccessfully tried to see if the magazine would forget to ask for it back.
