Buying Equipment for Kids!
TECH TALK: EXCLUSIVE BY THE PROFESSOR GOLF AUSTRALIA'S EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY EXPERT

If you are a golfer and a parent of youngsters, chances are that sooner or
later your children will want to follow you out to the golf course. Naturally you will want to encourage your kids, and you’ll be itching to impart your passion for this great game and wanting to help them to be the best person (and player) they can be.

So how you introduce kids to golf is important if you are to make the most of this special time and responsibility.

From the outset you need to make sure the game is enjoyable and they experience a degree of success in hitting the ball. For this reason, finding the right clubs for your kids can be very important.

In generations past, junior golfers were often just handed mum’s or dad’s old clubs, sometimes cut down a few inches. All too often we would see kids trying to use clubs with overly stiff shafts, wrong lengths and huge swingweights. The result, in this case, is usually less than pleasing – shots that wouldn’t get off the ground, clubs too heavy to swing and swing faults being learnt just to compensate for the equipment. It is hardly the best start to a life of golf. Today, it doesn’t need to be like that.

Many manufacturers offer kids’ clubs, some even specialise in junior sets, and so it is easy to get access to equipment that will enhance your child’s love of golf, not destroy it!

So when you’re taking the first steps into junior golf, here are a couple of tech tips that will help your kids get the most of the experience.

Firstly, kids are like grown-ups – if our equipment is ill-fitting the resulting swing will be less balanced, less rhythmic and more inconsistent. Being fitted by a professional is a small investment to make in ensuring your child learns good swing habits at a young age.

PowerBilt’s Junior series sets have been developed specifically for a child’s height and are designed to help kids enjoy the game.

The sets are available in four boys’ sizes – orange, blue, silver and gold – in right- and left-handed models and two girls sizes’ –
teal (pictured) and lavender (right hand only). All sets have an oversized driver with 26º loft to help get the ball airborne, while a hybrid
is included (except in the orange set) as an easier-to-hit long iron replacement.

All irons in the PowerBilt Junior series are made from stainless steel, to keep them looking new. Each set includes a lightweight bag (with matching head covers) and an easy to align putter.

Wedges are sold separately.

RRP: Prices range from $139.95 to $219.95 per set depending on the size.
