GOLF AUSTRALIA Clubs Road Test
CLEVELAND CG RED GOLF IRONS

MODEL AND SHAFT PLAYED: Cleveland CG Red fitted with stiff True Temper Dynamic
Gold steel shafts.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The minimal offset, compact head shape and overall look of
these clubs made them look like a better player’s club. The bright red insert in the cavity is certainly a different look.

VERDICT: My first few shots of the day set the tone for the round. They flew off the face on a medium to high trajectory with good distance. In fact, the first three shots I
hit flew well over the green, so the distance I was getting was considerably greater than with my current set.
I was really impressed with the crisp feel at impact.
Although the red insert was obviously designed for shock absorption, I really didn’t
feel any noticeable difference in terms of shock dampening between these clubs and
others I have used. These irons were easy to use in terms of shaping shots. During the road test, I had to
fashion a few recovery shots that required a draw or fade from out of the rough and
these clubs were up to the task.
The long irons were very impressive. They felt light in the hands and easy swings
produced a straight and long ball flight. I hit a few ordinary shots with the shorter irons,
but this was probably because I was trying to hit them too hard.
