Mizuno Forged MX –25 Irons

Handicap: 12
MODEL AND SHAFT
PLAYED:
Mizuno MX-25 irons (3-iron to pitching wedge) fitted with regular
Dynamic Gold
Lite steel shafts.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
The look of these irons in the bag and sitting on the ground at
address just oozes class and quality. I was interested to see
if the performance matched the looks.
VERDICT:
Prior to the road test I’d played with a set of big name
branded forged irons, which I found to have quite a hard feel
off the clubface, so I was more than interested to see how these
Mizuno irons compared.
I soon realised that the MX-25s are in a different
class and shots struck pure out of the clubface were buttery soft
and felt absolutely sensational.
Throughout the road test I hit quite a few shots,
both with long and short irons, where the impact didn’t
register in my arms or hands at all, which was a really nice feeling.
These well struck shots had a nice trajectory
and carried a little further than my current irons, whilst shots
hit out of the toe or heel (yes, I also hit some of these) still
went reasonably straight, but obviously were punished distance
wise.
The shot of the day for me was a 3-iron from
around 180 metres out from a green. Into a strong headwind, the
shot felt great and it stayed on line and settled near the fl
ag. I also loved the pitching wedge from the 80- to 100-metre
range
but found I struggled a little with it on ‘touch’
shots around the green, where I tended to hit it too far past
the pin.
Overall, I really enjoyed playing with these
clubs and I found them incredibly easy to get used to. After only
a couple of holes I felt confident and at ease with them, and
as the round went on they felt even better. I would happily put
a set in my bag.
