MAXFLI BLACK
MAX IRONS
REVIEWED BY: Bernie Woodford
HANDICAP: 9
MODEL & SHAFT PLAYED:
Maxfli Black Max irons (2- to sand-iron) fitted with stiff True
Temper Black Gold shafts.
FIRST IMPRESSION:
I found the Maxfli Black Max looked very nice at address, even
though they were very different to my current set of thick set
cavity back irons. The thin top line of the Black Max irons and
very
slight offset on the long irons gave me confidence in these clubs.
VERDICT:
I have always used Dynamic Gold shafts in the past, but I really
liked the Black Gold shafts, as they seemed perfectly matched
to each iron. The overriding feeling during the test period was
one of extremely good balance throughout the set.
Although the 2- to 7-iron are cavity backs,
the thin topline and smallish head made me feel like I was hitting
a true player’s club. This was complemented by the soft
but true feeling the clubs offered at impact.
Well timed shots simply launched to the target
with a nice strong trajectory. Shots that were not out of the
middle performed reasonably well, although there was a loss of
distance with the longer irons.
The 8-iron to pitching wedge were great fun
to use and seemed very similar to the fantastic Australian Blades
that Maxfli put out years ago.
I highly recommend them to anyone who is using
or would like a mixed set of musclebacks and cavity irons.
