BROSNAN MAGNATE DUAL IRONS
REVIEWED BY:
Noel Duffin
Handicap: 20

MODEL & SHAFT PLAYED: Brosnan Magnate Dual blended set with 3- and 4-Hybrid clubs and irons fitted with regular graphite shafts.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Despite each club in the blended set having a unique appearance, there was a nice look of continuity – maybe because of the common colour scheme throughout the nine clubs in the set. All the clubs had some sort of weight system on the back of the head, although I’m not sure – in my case – that this had a big effect on playability or feel.

VERDICT: Both the hybrids and irons felt nice and well-balanced from the first swing. I particular liked the half cord grips and found the clubs easy to use, even through the heads were larger than the clubs I currently use. This well-balanced feel meant it wasn’t long before I was hitting consistently good shots. The irons seemed to have a large sweetspot and the feel off the clubface was soft, yet solid enough to offer great feedback.

I was pleasantly surprised with the consistent yardage gap between each club. From the sand-iron back to the 5-iron, I was able to confidently predict around a 10-metre gap in distance between each iron and around a 15-metre step up in distance from the 5-iron to the 4-hybrid.

I must admit I’m not a great lover of hybrid clubs. However, with the Brosnan hybrids’ extra distance, I
was quickly won over to the concept. I gained an additional 20 metres, with a consistent draw, in comparison with my own 3-iron.

The Brosnan Magnate Dual set performed extremely well, delivering the ideal combination of forgiveness
and playability that a player of my standard needs.
