CLUBS ROAD TEST:
ADAMS IDEA A2 & A2 OS HYBRID IRONS

PLAYER: BRIAN YATES
HANDICAP: 4
MODEL & SHAFT PLAYED:
Adams Idea a2 irons fitted with regular True Temper Dynalite steel shafts. The 3- and 4-Idea a2 Hybrid clubs were fitted with stiff Aldila NV graphite shafts.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

The low profile head of the Idea a2 Hybrids looked very solid at address and when combined with the green Aldila shaft, produced a very attractive looking club. The irons had a nice thick top line and rounded face.

High Launch Angle

A low centre of gravity at the back of the clubhead make the Idea a2 OS Hybrid easy to get airbourne from any lie.

VERDICT:
The 3- and 4-Idea a2 Hybrids performed strikingly similar to an iron in regards to ball trajectory and a nice, solid feel at impact. At address, I had an overriding feeling that I was going to draw the ball and generally, that’s what happened. I felt I would make a solid strike every time and even with slightly mis-hit shots the result was better than I would have expected.

The one criticism I do have of the clubs is the distance gap between the hybrids and the irons. While the distance gaps between each of the irons from 5- to sand-iron was a consistent 10 metres or so, there seemed to be a 20-metre gap between the graphite shafted 4- Hybrid and the steel shafted 5-iron. The same solid feel found in the hybrids was present in the irons. But some shots – punch shots and flop shots in particular – tended to fly hard off the face so I think my ideal ‘Idea’ set would see the wedges replaced with blade-shaped wedges. The purist may have difficulty with these clubs, but looks can be deceiving and I think a person who likes and uses hybrids would feel right at home with this set.

ADAMS GOLF SAYS: “The design of the Idea a2 and a2 OS Hybrid Irons signal the death of the long iron for the average golfer. Adams Golf’s experience in hybrid technology delivers the distance of a fairway wood with the control and accuracy of an iron, in an easy-to-hit club that is finding its way into the hands of professional golfers on the US PGA, Nationwide and Champions Tours.

The Idea a2 Hybrid has a design and shape, preferred by tour professionals and features a low centre of gravity, higher moment of inertia (MOI) and less spin than conventional hybrids. It also delivers ideal launch conditions and playability for mid- to high swing speeds.

The Idea a2 OS Hybrids were designed to be the easiest-tohit set of irons in golf, featuring four progressively shaped hybrids that integrate perfectly into a set of irons. The centre of gravity is lower and deeper than conventional irons, allowing a consistent flow from one club to another, while delivering increased distance and a higher launch angle than the Idea a2.
These hybrids are perfect for replacing hard-to-hit long or mid irons. Traditional 3- and 4- irons are replaced by the 3- and 4-Idea a2 Hybrids that have a slim design, or the 3-and 4-Idea a2 OS Hybrids that have a woodlike design for maximum game improvement.
