MODEL AND SHAFT PLAYED:
Mizuno MP-52 irons with True Temper regular steel shafts.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
From the outset, you could see this was a very solid golf club. The MP-52s felt really good in the hand, with superb balance, and they sat well
at address.
VERDICT:
I used to use blades and went off to more of a perimeter-weighted iron, but these Mizuno irons might convince me to come back. For a new club, I found that it didn’t take too long for me to get used to the MP-52s.
For a blade, it had a very big sweetspot and was pretty forgiving. You could get
one off-centre and they still went. The distance control was very good, and the irons were certainly a lot longer as well – I managed to get an extra 10 metres for each of my regular iron distances.
The extra distance was apparent during the road test. I hit some lovely shots during the round, the standout being an approach to an uphill par-3 that finished three feet from the cup. The irons had some workability to them too, although I didn’t try to fade or draw it too much because there was a lot of wind during the test round.
