Shellharbour Links
Covering
63 hectares with an additional 20 hectares of wetlands, the Shellharbour
Links layout is the first design project of Sydney-based architect
Scott Murray, and was built by renowned course construction team,
Traditional Links.
The par-71 layout stretches to 6,135 metres from the back markers
across a fairly undulating landscape, which was formerly prime grazing
land wedged between the sea and the Illawarra escarpment. This is
a tough course and will play completely different each time there
is a wind change of any significance.
Shellharbour Links’s best holes are concentrated on the back
nine. The long, uphill par-4 13th is a monster at 371 metres and
will be incredibly tough in summer with the prevailing north-easterly
breeze blowing in your face.
Throw in some well-placed fairway traps and some big numbers will
be pencilled on the scorecard as you walk to the 14th tee.
