OCTOBER
2005
COVER STORY
Golf Australia contributing pro and PGA Tour winner,
Geoff Ogilvy, explains the importance of a good weight shift in
hitting accurate and powerful shots.
"One
area of the golf swing often misunderstood is the movement of
body weight throughout the motion. Golfers tend to run into difficulties
when they attempt to SHIFT their weight during the swing. The
mere mention of “weight shift” or “weight transfer”
will cause an average player to conjure up an image involving
some lateral movement of body weight, back and forth, during the
swing. This swing thought can create some serious problems.
A sway – or reverse pivot – is created when the head
is kept still, with the player making a conscious effort to transfer
weight with the legs or lower body." Read Geoff Ogilvy's
